INTRODUCTION (ABOUT SRI LANKA) |
Sri Lanka is a tear drop shaped island, located off south
eastern shores of India, 880km north of the equator. This
island known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, is sprawling
over the area of 65,525 sq km.
Sri Lanka is a land of multi ethnic and multi religious
society. Sinhalese with 74% are the main ethnic group.
The administrative capital is of the country is Sri
Jayawardanapura and the main city, Colombo, is the
commercial capital.
Sri Lanka has a population of 19.6 million, with a high
literacy rate of 91.8 per cent, main languages are Sinhala,
Tamil and English.
English is widely spoken throughout the country with the
exception of remote villages.
This island of natural beauty has excellent climatic
conditions with an average temperature of 27 c degrees. But
the central hills are cooler with 14 c degrees. This isle
delight offers a very good climate for holiday makers
throughout the year.
Sri Lanka is an Island nation full of natural treasures.
Early Arab traders called the Island “Serendib” the land of
happy surprises. Famous
People of Sri Lanka are friendly and hospitable.Major
exports of the country are textiles, garments, tea, spices
and gems.
A 30 day visa is given to tourist on arrival at the airport,
